Clayton Melton

Clay Melton joined Gateway in 2023 and brings over 20 years of experience in the management of professional liability and medical malpractice claims. Clay began his career as a defense attorney with a medical malpractice boutique firm in Dallas where he represented physicians on behalf of a Texas-based malpractice carrier. He then entered the insurance industry as claims counsel for a Dallas-based TPA handling claims against long term care facilities. From there, he went to work for a large insurance carrier managing miscellaneous professional liability claims. With a strong desire to return to his medical malpractice roots, Clay transitioned to the management of claims against hospitals and physicians, the latter of which has been his primary focus since 2016. Clay has national MPL and GL claims expertise in nearly 40 US states in addition to experience in two Canadian provinces. Clay holds a Bachelor of Arts from Texas Christian University and Juris Doctor from The University of Tulsa College of Law.
